Helpful Hint Tip: Ecora's Auditor software (vs Auditor Basic) contains additional tools to help manage complex IT infrastructures, such as change management, relational database storage, and scheduling capabilities. If you are interested in Auditor Professional, contact a sales representative.

Menu Bar

File...

New Folder... creates a new directory in which data and reports can be saved.
Delete permanently removes the selected report, data set, or folder.
Rename... changed the name of the selected folder.
Settings... accesses a dialog box in which to set the user properties that appear in reports, preferences for storage and security, and the output formats created for reports (for details, see Global Settings).
Exit closes the application.

Edit...

Documentation Report Definitions... accesses a dialog box in which to modify the available reports, such as hardware or security.
Fact-Finding Report Definitions... accesses a dialog box in which to modify the available database reports.
Consolidated Change Log Definitions... accesses a dialog box in which to modify existing change log definitions.
Selection Sets... accesses a dialog box in which to modify the lists of servers or devices to be documented as a group of as a scheduled task (for details, see Editing Reports).
Alerts and Triggers... accesses a dialog box in which to create or modify checks notifications by the software when user-defined conditions are met (for details, see Alerting).

Reports...

Documentation Report... initiates the process of generating a Documentation Report, using either new or existing data.
Fact-Finding Report... initiates the process of querying the configuration database for information based on the collected settings.
Change Report... initiates the process of generating a Change Report, using either new or existing data, to detect any modification to the infrastructure.
Consolidated Change Log... initiates the process of querying the configuration database for changes over time.
Baseline Comparison Report... initiates the process of generating a Baseline Comparison Report, using either new or existing data, to check compliance across multiple systems.

Tools...

Extracting from Archive... accesses a dialog box in which to specify archived data to restore to the active database (for details, see Restoring Archived Data).
Data Collection Only... initiates the process of gathering configuration settings from selected systems.
Write to Configuration Database... records the data from the selected data set to the relational configuration database (for details, see Writing Data to the Database).
Manage Modules... accesses a dialog box in which to review and control licensed modules, software updates, and the active module in the user interface (for details, see Managing Modules).
Search... runs the application to full-text search the report(s) (for details, see Searching Reports).
System Management .. (Windows Module ONLY) accesses a dialog box in which to view and manage discovered systems by domain, IP, last collection, etc. (see System Management).
Upgrade Now launches a browser and accesses the Ecora website page containing comparison information for Ecora Auditor Lite, Ecora Auditor Basic and Ecora Auditor Professional products.
Website... accesses the Ecora or Ecora partner website, typically for updates.
External Data Integration... accesses a dialog box for establishing additional attributes to be collected (for details, see External Data Integration).
Log Filter... accesses a dialog box for limiting the event codes written to the Ecora log files (for details, see Log Filtering).

View...

Refresh updates the view of directories and reports in the main window.
Log... opens a secondary window displaying the messages recorded by Ecora software.

Activation...

Activation... accesses a dialog box in which a user is able to specify registration information, either to obtain an activation key to start using Ecora software or to update an existing activation key.
Manual Activation... accesses a dialog box in which a user can manually specify an activation key obtained from Ecora by e-mail.
License Agreement... accesses a dialog box in which the Ecora license agreement is displayed.

Help...

Help Topics... accesses the online help system (user manual).
What's This?... accesses a pop-up description of the next GUI element clicked.
About... accesses a dialog box that presents the version of the software.

Button Bar

Collection ButtonBegins the process of collecting configuration data from systems.
Documentation ButtonBegins the process of creating a documentation report.
FFR ButtonInitiates the process of generating a Fact-Finding Report, using either new or existing data, to query the database for specific values (optionally used with operators and comparison values).
Change ButtonInitiates the process of generating a Change Report, using either new or existing data, to detect any modification to the infrastructure.
CCL ButtonInitiates the process of generating a Consolidated Change Log Report, using either new or existing data, to detect and report trends in modifications to the infrastructure.
Baseline ButtonInitiates the process of generating a Baseline Comparison Report, using either new or existing data, to check compliance across multiple systems.
System Management Button(Windows Module ONLY) Accesses a dialog box in which to view and manage discovered systems by domain, IP, last collection, etc. (see System Management).
Upgrades ButtonLaunches a browser and accesses Ecora's website page containing comparison information for Ecora Auditor Lite, Ecora Auditor Basic and Ecora Auditor Professional products, where Upgrade option is described.

Active Module Selector

The drop-down list allows you to choose or change the active module being used for collection and reporting. Only licensed modules appear in the drop-down list. For more information about licensing modules, see Managing Modules.

Main Window

The left window pane contains four tabs that allow you to choose how you wish to organize your data and reports.
The Reports tab displays the directory structure, data, and reports within the default storage directory (set in the Settings dialog box).
The Data tab displays the CSV files (if you have enabled this output format in the Settings dialog box) by date.
The System or third tab (Computer, Devices, etc dependent on the active module) displays the reports organized by the network structure and the systems for which you are licensed, collect data, and create reports.
The Scheduled Tasks tab displays all jobs associated with Auditor scheduled collections, reports, dependencies between tasks, and job status (for details, see Scheduled Tasks).
The Policies tab displays and allows modifications to the groups and policies for standards defined for your environment (for details, see Using Policies and Auditor Professional Executive Dashboard).

The right window pane displays the content and properties of whatever is currently selected and active in the left pane.

The right window pane allows specific function through a right mouse click. Depending on the selected tab and item, right-clicking provides relevant options such as Open, Rename, Delete, or, for data sets when the data tab is active, Write to Configuration Database.
