Performance Tips

Smaller policies, with 10-20 rules are faster (as well as quicker to troubleshoot).

Smaller groups, with fewer than 1000 members, speed calculations and allow targeted policies. Consider breaking large groups, even All Systems, into groups that suit your environment and policies; perhaps All Servers and All Workstations or All 2000 Servers, XP Workstations, etc.

Perform upgrades and maintenance during off-peak / off-work hours. For example, each module installation or upgrade requires policy initialization and recalculation; plan those upgrades for off hours and with a buffer before Policy statistics are required or scheduled tasks begin.

MSDE is excellent for evaluation purposes, but has a 2GB limit and will not produce the speed of policy calculation that a full SQL server can provide. Installing the SQL engine on a separate computer can improve performance as well.

Ecora Executive Dashboard does not have to be installed on a the same system that hosts Auditor Professional. In large environments, especially where thousands of collections and hundreds of rules are active, a dedicated system would improve performance noticeably. Please consult the Diagram of Auditor Architecture.
