Question:  I am seeing the following error message when pushing patches; what does it mean?

Failed to save the task, error number 5

Answer:  If Patch Manager is installed on Windows 2003 Server, changes in Microsoft task scheduling APIs may cause scheduled jobs Patch Manager jobs to fail in the following situations:


  • Target systems are in Workgroups.
  • Target systems exist on a 'foreign' domain when no 'cross-domain trust' exists.
  • When a one-way trust exists between domains, target systems are on the foreign domain and you run Patch Manager from within any security context, of the 'untrusted' domain.
  • Enterprises running Patch Manager with regular user credentials despite providing administrative credentials to the target system in Systems Management.

Workaround:
The user running Patch Manager must have administrative privileges on the target machine.
